DEANO THE CLOWN
Birthday Party Description

For a very full two-hour party, Deano arrives on a unicycle and starts off by memorizing everyone's names; knowing who everyone is makes the party much more personal.  Everyone sits to watch a half-hour to forty-five minute long show, during which Deano looks through all his pockets full of silly gags and gimmicks, juggles balls, rings and pins, does magic, ventriloquism, puppets, balancing, pratt falls, improvisationaltheater, music, and lots of audience participation.

After sitting, the group is ready for action.  Everybody has a specialty, and Deano's is games.  Deano knows over 600 non-competitive games, and has been involved in numerous "New Games" trainings. Weather usually determines whether the games are indoors or outdoors.  Even on rainy days in crowded spaces Deano can keep everybody busy for hours.

After the group has exerted a good portion of energy, it is relaxing to sit and hear stories.  A member of the Seattle Story Tellers Guild, Deano knows hundreds of folk tales, fairy tales, myths and legends, and has made up several stories of his own.  The birthday person is always the hero of the story. Deano collects unusual stories and tells new ones every time.

At last it's time for presents.  Deano makes sure everyone can see, everyone gets thanked, the place is kept clean, and he keeps a record of all the gifts.  When it's time to eat, Deano helps get everything organized, and while everyone is busy eating, Deano is busy telling jokes and being silly.  For small groups (up to 6 guests) he twists balloons during the eating.   His large repertoire of symmetrical and creative sculptures invariably receive compliments.  Each person gets something unique, and if time permits, the birthday person receives a big fancy sculpture as well.

When it's time to leave Deano has a problem: he can't leave.  This is everyone's favorite part.  Deano is so clumsy that he crashes his unicycle into the trees, the bushes, the walls and the garbage can.  Since that doesn't work, he tries leaving on his 6' high unicycle.   Then all the children get to ride the little one, with Deano's help, and the birthday person, if willing, gets a special ride on the big one.  Then Deano gives everyone a hug goodbye and crashes his way off into the sunset.

For normal to large groups Deano saves twisting balloons until the very end, after the unicycle, so that the children can then go straight home without popping their balloons.  Balloons generally add an extra half hour to the party.  Figure a couple minutes per balloon times how many children are present.  Count on a two-and-a-half to three-hour party for everyone to get balloons.  If you have over eight or ten children and you want balloons, plan on a two-and-a-half-hour party of Seattle Clown Entertainment.
In addition, for longer parties Deano brings his 6'-high unicycle.  After falling off of it in his attempts to get on it, he juggles on it, rides it backwards, tries to beat everyone in a race, and falls off again. Then Deano gives the birthday person a special ride on the tall unicycle.  If time allows, he also gives everyone a ride on the small unicycle, then gives everyone a hug good-bye and rides off, crashing into things as he goes.

Funny Man

The Funny Man is Deano with no make-up.  Instead, the Funny Man wears a red nose, a clown hat, baggy patched pants, mis-matched shoes, and a large overcoat full of pockets.  The Funny Man is very silly and is definitely a clown, not a normal person.  This character is excellent for preschools, older kids (12+), churches, and anyone who has never seen Deano and is not expecting Deano in full make-up.  In an hour, the Funny Man usually usually does a half-hour show and then plays games (with or without the parachute).  Sometimes in an hour there is time for a short story before he rides off on his little unicycle.  In two hours there is time for balloons, stories, more games, and the six-foot unicycle.
The Funny Man performs weekdays only.

Picnics

Deano is one of the few clowns in the area who is set up for large groups such as company picnics, church picnics, family reunions, class reunions, wedding receptions, etc.  His activities are broken down roughly into half-hour segments.

TOYS
A typical format would be to start by setting toys around the area, such as tumblers, air logs and other inflatables, parachutes, jump ropes, horseshoes, nerf balls, discs, human rubber bands, miscellaneous toys, and combats for the teen agers.  For the toddlers he has soft toys, small parachutes, a tipi, and sometimes a baby race course.
SHOW
When the majority of people are present, Deano performs a 30-45 minute slapstick show, including juggling, silly magic, unicycles, and lots of audience participation.
GAMES
Following the show we play parachute games and family games. After the adults get tired, we play children's games, relays, team games and hiding games. Deano knows over twenty different races with gunny sacks, for adults and children together.  Sometimes Deano will set up an obstacle course. Deano coordinates a series of games with the 6' cageball, which requires the entire group's participation.  Afterwards, if the adults still have energy, there is volleyball with the cageball for the adults only. The "net" is a rope laid on the ground, and it takes the entire team to get the ball over the rope.  The picnic usually ends with a giant tug-of-war, after which everyone is ready either to sit down or go home.
RAIN
If it is raining, Deano has shelter activities such as theater sport improv games, folksongs, tongue-twisters, stories, balloons, face painting, nosebag skits, mime, games for small spaces, and sometimes a talent show.
